Shawn Lewis - President
Shawn was born and raised in Sacramento, CA and graduated from Del Campo High School in 2009. Before coming to Cal, Shawn got involved in politics by first drafting a proposal to help the budget mess in late 2007 and submitted it to his local Assemblyman, Roger Niello (5th District), who later offered Shawn a summer internship in his capitol office. Shawn continued to intern for Assemblyman Niello for a full year from June 2008 - 2009. Also during that time in high school, Shawn volunteered for John McCain and the Sacramento Republican Party in Victory 2008 efforts.
In his first year at Cal, Shawn joined the Berkeley College Republicans and attended his first ever California Republican Party convention in the Spring of 2010; after that great experience, he decided he wanted to commit more of his time and energy into expanding our Conservative ideals on campus by boosting club membership and facilitating exciting political events both on and off campus. In addition to serving as President of BCR, Shawn is also Publisher of the California Patriot Conservative Student Voice magazine on campus, and is an elected member of the Alameda County Republican Party Central Committee.
Mia Lincoln - External Vice President
Mia Lincoln is a California native, born and raised in the northern reaches of the state in the small town of Lakeport. She graduated Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa, CA in 2009 and is currently a second year at UC Berkeley. She is studying History and French and plans to attend Law school after Cal.
Mia developed an interest in politics in middle and high school deriving inspiration from her parents, grandparents and high school history teacher. She got her start with the Berkeley College Republicans her first year at Cal, attending two CRP conventions and taking a leadership role in Students for Meg Whitman. She ran and was elected External Vice President in 2010.
As External Vice President, Mia works to bring in new and exciting speakers to discuss current issues of concern to the Republican Party, works to get the club involved on campaigns to get good Republicans elected in California and helps the club give back through planning community service events. Her favorite aspects of politics are the people and campaigns.
Derek Zhou - Internal Vice President
Derek Zhou has been living in California since the age of 3. He graduated from Cupertino High School in 2010, and currently is a first-year student at UC Berkeley. He is an intended Business Administration and Computer Science major for 2014.Derek Zhou developed his interest in politics in high school with the right support from his father. He was an intern for Sen. Abel Maldonado during the summer of 2009, and played an active role in his Lt. Governor campaign at the California Republican Party convention in spring 2010. In addition, he worked at Meg Whitman.s Oakland office in the fall of 2010.
Outside of BCR, Derek enjoys running and rabidly following the San Francisco Giants. Above all, he loves the community atmosphere of BCR, and the resilience the club extrudes in Berkeley's liberal environment.
Francisco Loayza - Treasurer
Francisco Loayza has lived in Modesto, CA for almost his entire life. He graduated from Fred C. Beyer High School in 2008 and went directly into Modesto Junior College. During his time in Modesto Junior College, Francisco played a heavy role in student government first as a student body Senator and then as Treasurer of the student body. As Treasurer, Francisco managed an operating budget of about $320,000 with roughly a million in reserve. Additionally, he was the first in years to create a new budget for the next fiscal year. Apart from local level student government, Francisco was the Communications Officer of Region V of Student Senate for Community Colleges of California. As Communications Officer, Francisco kept the community colleges of Region V updated with information on future meetings and events while also managing the Region V website and social media.
In the fall of 2010, Francisco transferred as a junior to UC Berkeley as a Political Science major. The following semester he became fairly involved in BCR by tabling, attending CRP and CCR conventions, and representing BCR in the Great Debate versus the Students for Liberty. Seeking to further his involvement in BCR and use his experience with budgets, Francisco ran and is now the Treasurer of BCR.
Becca Brown - Secretary
Becca Brown was born and raised in the Central Valley in the small town of Atwater. She graduated from Buhach Colony High School in 2010 and is currently studying History and plans to pursue Law school after Cal. Becca's interest in politics began with a local debate on water politics and from there soon developed into a state and national interest in politics.
Outside of BCR, Becca enjoys hiking and backpacking, baking, and playing tennis.
